The Syrian armed opposition and the international coalition led by the U.S. announced the destruction of two regional leaders of the Islamic State (IG, banned in Russia) in Syria.
“On May 17, the forces of democratic Syria together with the coalition struck the positions of the IG in the province of Deir ez-Zor in Syria. Two leaders of the IG, Ahmad Isa Ismail al-Zawi and Ahmad Abd Muhammad Hassan al-Jugaifi, were killed in this operation,” said the headquarters of the international forces’ operation “Unyielding determination”.
Recall that in October 2019, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the liquidation of former IG chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as a result of a special operation of U.S. special forces in the Syrian province of Idlib. He thanked Russia, Turkey, Syria and Iraq for their assistance in this operation. The ISG later confirmed al-Baghdadi’s death.
