U.S. imposed sanctions on six companies for transporting coal from DPRK

The U.S. has included four cargo ships and six companies on its sanctions list for transporting North Korean coal, the Treasury Department said Tuesday.

The U.S. explains the imposition of sanctions as a violation of the UN Security Council sanctions prohibiting the transportation and export of coal from North Korea.

The sanctions list includes the vessels Asia Bridge and Lucky Star, associated with the Chinese company Weihai Huijiang Trade, Calm Bridge, owned by Hong Kong Silver Bridge Shipping, as well as the Vietnamese flagged vessel Star 18.

Sanctions have also been introduced against Chinese companies Weihai Huijiang Trade Ltd, Always Smooth Ltd and Good Siblings Ltd, the latter also registered in the UK. The sanctions list also includes Hong Kong Silver Bridge Shipping Co-HKG, Korea Daizin Trading Corporation operating in DPRK and Vietnam, and Vietnamese Thinh Cuong Co Ltd.
