U.S. Justice Department accused Russia of a cyber attack

At a press conference William Burr, head of the U.S. Justice Department, accused Russia of a massive cyberattack on U.S. government networks.

“It definitely looks like it was the Russians,” the Justice Department head said, agreeing with the position previously voiced by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Pompeo previously said that Russia had been involved in large-scale cyberattacks on the systems of U.S. government agencies and “governments around the world.”

The attacks, which were attributed to Russian hackers, first became known on December 14. It was alleged that they allegedly attacked the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and gained access to internal communications at the agency.

The attack was part of a campaign that also hacked the systems of the U.S. Treasury Department and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. Moscow rejects accusations of hacking attacks on U.S. agencies and considers them unfounded.
