Ukraine announces U.S. assistance in accelerating the receipt of COVID-19 vaccine

Washington will help Kiev communicate with Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Novavax to expedite the signing of a contract to supply COVID-19 coronavirus vaccine, the Ukrainian Ministry of Health press office said Tuesday.

It is reported that this issue was discussed by the heads of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the U.S. on Tuesday by phone, Maxim Stepanov and Alex Azar.

“The U.S. Minister of Health and Social Services thanked Minister Stepanov for the call and noted that receiving the vaccine by Ukraine is also a priority for the U.S. government.

Mr. Azar promised to help strengthen communication of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with such vaccine manufacturers as Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Novavax in order to speed up the signing of the contract for the vaccine”, – the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry reported on Facebook.

On March 11, the World Health Organization declared an outbreak of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19 a pandemic. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, during the whole period of the pandemic in Ukraine, the coronavirus was detected in 557,657 people, 250,983 cases of illness were recovered and 9,856 cases of fatal infection.
