According to him, geopolitical tensions are rising. “The threat of nuclear proliferation and confrontation has returned,” the UN secretary general explained.
Earlier, Guterres compared the current year to 1945, noting that today “there is a war against the coronavirus.” “Today’s war is against a microscopic virus. Tomorrow it could start against terrorists in cyberspace,” Guterres said. In this regard, he called for continued international cooperation and a broader understanding of what the concept means.
During the same speech, the UN secretary general accused rich countries of “vacuous nationalism. According to him, such states have ignored the needs of less developed countries in their struggle to procure vaccines.
