US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and Yang Jiechi, head of the Chancellery of the Chinese Communist Party’s Foreign Affairs Committee Central Committee, discussed the fight against coronavirus. This is stated in a statement by the State Department.

According to the report, the US representative during the working meeting in Hawaii emphasized the need for complete transparency and information exchange to combat the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and prevent future outbreaks.

Beijing has repeatedly been criticized in Washington. In March, US President Donald Trump accused China of not informing the world community about the outbreak of coronavirus. According to him, it would be better if the authorities of other countries knew about this a few months earlier.

As of June 18, in the world there are more than 8.2 million infected with coronavirus, of which 445 thousand died, another 4 million recovered. Most infected are in the United States, Brazil, Russia, India and the UK.

An outbreak of COVID-19 pneumonia caused by a new type of coronavirus was first recorded in December 2019 in Wuhan. On March 11, WHO announced that the situation could be described as a pandemic.
