The US State Department has blacklisted the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. The head of department Mike Pompeo told about it, reports Reuters.
Sanctions will be imposed on the head of Chechnya: in particular, he will be banned from entering the United States. Kadyrov is accused of human rights violations in the republic: according to Pompeo, he used the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse for his actions.
On December 20, at the OSCE Permanent Council, a report was presented on the violation of human rights in Chechnya. In particular, the document refers to the torture of representatives of the LGBTI community, who, according to the author of the report, were kept in secret prisons and deprived of legal assistance.
Ramzan Kadyrov was named responsible for what is happening in Chechnya. In addition, the report stressed that the current law in Russia prohibiting the promotion of non-traditional relationships among children encourages unreasonable persecution of representatives of the LGBT community.
