The United States demanded that China close the Consulate General in Houston within 72 hours.
It is noted that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed this information. The ministry called the decision a political provocation and a serious violation of international law and the Sino-American consular agreement. Beijing calls on to correct the mistake and reverse the decision, otherwise China will retaliate.
Earlier in Houston, local residents called firefighters to the building of the PRC consulate. Click2Houston reported that diplomats burned documents in the courtyard, while refusing to let incoming services inside.
It is known that the aforementioned consulate is one of six Chinese diplomatic missions in the United States. The rest are located in Washington, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
