US denied invasion of Russian waters by destroyer John McCain

The US Navy destroyer John McCain did not violate internationally recognized borders during her operation in the Far East. The corresponding denial of the invasion of Russian waters on Tuesday, November 24, was published on its website by the US Seventh Fleet.

As emphasized in the command of the fleet, the operation “John McCain” was intended to show that the United States does not fully recognize the Peter the Great Gulf as part of Russian territorial waters and does not agree that this gulf has a historical legal status.

“This Freedom of Navigation Operation (FONOP) has brought into question Russia’s excessive territorial claims. She supported the rights, freedoms and the ability to legally use the sea space in accordance with the provisions of international law, “- said in the Seventh Fleet.

Earlier on November 24, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the invasion of Russian waters by an American destroyer. It was noted that the violation of the border was stopped by a large anti-submarine ship “Admiral Vinogradov”. He warned the American ship about the inadmissibility of such actions and the possibility of using a ramming maneuver to drive out the intruder.
