US Navy officer suspected of passing classified information to a Russian

In the state of Virginia in the United States, Navy soldier Charles Briggs was arrested on suspicion of passing classified information to a Russian citizen. Reported by the local edition of The Virginian-Pilot

Briggs, who works at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, is suspected of having passed secret data to a Russian in early January 2019, obtained from a computer at an air base in Nebraska. What kind of data he transmitted is not specified.

The investigation believes that Briggs was aware that the transfer could “harm the United States or benefit a foreign citizen.”

Official charges of unauthorized distribution of classified information will be brought against Briggs next week.
