Valuable 17th century paintings found in trash in Germany

German police are searching for the owners of two 17th-century paintings that were found in a roadside trash bin.

The paintings, by Samuel van Gogstraten, a portrait of a man in a red hat and Pietro Bellotti’s self-portrait, were found last month by a random passerby who reported the find to police.

The police state that the owners have not yet been found, but experts have confirmed the authenticity of the paintings, which are housed in gold frames.

It is noted that the paintings van Gogstraten go under the hammer for a rather large sums of 69 to 394 thousand dollars.
