Immunity to coronavirus infection lasts for about six months. The virologist, former head of the laboratory at the Vector Center, Alexander Chepurnov, told Ura.ru about this.
According to him, in patients who have recovered from COVID-19, the level of antibodies decreases until they disappear completely within three to four months. After that, cellular immunity ceases to respond to the coronavirus antigen, and those who were sick in April will again be at risk of infection in October.
Chepurnov also pointed out that “there is no more hope for the formation of herbal immunity with the help of those who have been ill. Today it became clear that it would not be possible to do this, ”the scientist complained.
On October 4, Chepurnov suggested that the partial restrictions introduced due to the coronavirus would remain in Russia for another one to two years. He explained that this will last until “we learn how to properly use vaccines.”
Earlier, the leading specialist of the Gamaleya Center, Fedor Lisitsyn, said that only one case of re-infection with coronavirus has been reliably proven and officially recognized in Russia. It happened 148 days after the first.
According to the latest data, the number of new infections with coronavirus in Russia over the past day amounted to 10,499 and increased to May figures. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1.22 million cases of coronavirus have been registered in 85 regions in Russia. At the same time, 21 358 deaths were recorded, 979 143 people recovered.
