The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has responded to the United States with a proposal to stop financing a company fighting doping in sports around the world.
It is curious that every year Americans transfer to WADA more than other countries, namely $ 2.7 million. At the same time, there is an opinion that, in return, the organization monitors compliance with anti-doping rules by US athletes not so seriously.
- WADA cannot be managed exclusively by several of the richest countries. Athletes who compete with athletes from the United States come from all over the world, and for the sake of objectivity in relation to American athletes, we want to ensure the conditions under which their competitors will obey the same strict rules as they do. For this to happen, it is necessary to ensure representation of all regions of the world.
The idea that countries should be represented in proportion to the amount of money they transfer does not make sense. The distribution of seats exclusively among the largest sponsors will deprive most countries of the world of their representation on the founders’ council or executive committee and will not comply with international best practice. Will the Americans support the fact that all members of the US Congress will be only from the richest states? – quoted by WADA Reuters.
