The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the introduction of a vaccine against the COVID-19 coronavirus will not stop the pandemic. He wrote about this on Twitter.
According to Ghebreyesus, the initial supply of the COVID-19 vaccine will be limited, so priority will be given to health workers, the elderly and other at-risk groups.
The WHO hopes that this will reduce the number of deaths and allow health systems to cope with the situation, but they believe that the virus still has room to move.
“The vaccine itself will not stop the COVID-19 pandemic. we will still need to continue: surveillance, testing, isolation, contact tracing and quarantine, encouraging people to be careful,” Ghebreyesus wrote.
