The world’s oldest grandmaster Yury Averbach was urgently hospitalized.
According to the press service of the International Chess Federation, doctors diagnosed him with the coronavirus COVID-19.
“The world’s oldest grandmaster, 99-year-old Yuri Averbach, has been hospitalized in a Moscow hospital. Our thoughts are with him and we hope that his strength and willpower will help him overcome this disease,” the statement said.
According to chess player Marina Makarycheva, Averbakh was admitted to the intensive care unit in a serious condition.
